The work gained popularity as Freud did, and seven more editions were printed in his lifetime. The text was translated by A. A. Brill, an American Freudian psychoanalyst, and later in an authorized translation by James Strachey, who was British. Because the book is very long and complex, Freud wrote an abridged version called On Dreams/5(). The Ego and the Id ranks high among the works of Freud's later years. The heart of his concern is the ego, which he sees battling with three forces: the id, the super-ego, and the outside world. An Autobiographical Study. Sigmund Freud, James Strachey, Peter Gay. The Standard Edition, Paperback, An Autobiographical Study. Sigmund.
